Teacher: Miss E. Roach-Rooke Class : 1 Term : Summer 2009 Theme : My Growing Garden / Creepy Crawly Creatures. Language Development Nursery: Writing own name. Sequencing pictures from a story. Listening to and responding to a text. Taking part in question and answer group activities. Reception: Listening to and answering questions about stories, poems and non fiction books read in class. Continue to learn the keywords (flashcards) and all letter sounds. Make sentences from the keywords. Looking at three letter words and ‘sounding out’ each letter. What does the word say? Trying to form all letters correctly. Attempting to write CVC words and the keywords. Mathematics Development Nursery: Chanting in order and recognition of numbers up to 5 or 10. Knowing the names of all shapes. Comparing two lengths. Sorting objects according to two criterion. Reception: Recognition of numbers beyond twenty. Using a number square and recognising patterns within the number square. Beginning to add and subtract with small numbers. Using coins to £1. Knowing the days of the week and months of the year. Personal and Social Development Well-being and Cultural Diversity Working together and playing cooperatively with each other. Listening carefully and being polite to adults and children alike. Taking responsibility for setting up and clearing away necessary materials. Responding positively to a range of new experiences. Continuing to learn about the life of our persona doll ‘Jemima’. Comparing her life from the inner city to ours and about her African roots. How do growing vegetables and sunflowers help African families? Learning to treat all living things including flowers with care and respect no matter how small. Knowledge and Understanding of the World. How do flowers grow? What do they need to help them grow? Continuing to learn about life cycles of a sunflower, butterfly and frog. Planting, growing and digging. Finding ‘minibeasts’ in our garden and allotment. What do they need to survive? How are they the same/different from us? Recording findings. Creative Development. Creative activities using paint, pastels and crayons. Printing and modelling using plasticine, clay and natural materials. Observing animals carefully and sketching using pencils. Making music using a range of percussion instruments. Dancing/moving to music creating a story related to the theme (tadpole to frog, seed to sunflower etc). General Guidance Please mark ALL clothes brought into school with names. Please ensure that your child brings their reading book to school on their designated reading day. (YR - Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, YN - Thursday/Friday) P.E clothes should be brought to school in a suitable bag and left until half term, when it can be taken home to be washed. Again, please mark all of these clothes with their name. We will be doing P.E outside when the weather gets warmer so please provide trainers/plimsolls. P.E days are Monday afternoon and Thursday morning. Please send in a sun cap daily (or one that can be left in school) when the weather gets warmer, as we will spend a lot of our time out of doors this term. Parent’s Role Please support your child by enjoying books with them as often as possible. Continue to encourage your child to put their coat on independently and dress themselves. Point out words to your child in the environment. For example, whilst shopping, look at tins and read the labels. Use this as an opportunity to discuss coins and amounts. Point out the numbers on the coins that tell us the value of the coin. Reception - continue to learn all of the letter sounds and begin word building and reading CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words. Cat, bed, dig, pin etc. Please check our website regularly for whole school weekly newsletters and information, as well as ‘Class 1 news’. |
